By virtue of a Memorandum of Agreement signed by the Municipality of Ibaan and University of Batangas, College of Business and Accountancy conducted a seminar entitled “Workplace Ethics” with municipal hall employees, July 30.
Dr. Jess Briones, UB – CBA Program Head for Business Administration stood as the seminar’s main lecturer on the said topic. He was with UB – CBA Program Head for Accountancy Mr. Doringer Cabrera, together with some Human Resource Management Development course students.
In his lecture, Dr. Briones reiterated the following to the participants:
- importance of developing strong work ethics
- find out how the work ethics can be developed and how it will affect the the participants’ current employment at the Municipal Hall.
Relative to those mentioned above, the following were discussed as the main thrust of the seminar:
- What are ethics?
- How are ethics applied in the workplace?
- Common organization’s core values
- How to make ethical decisions
- Ethics in the workplace case study
At the start of the program, Municipal Administrator Librado Dimaunahan welcomed the 64 participants from different departments in the municipal hall. He gave the participants an insight on the semantics and origin of the word “ethics”. According to him, ethics came from Ancient Greek word “ethiks” which is also derived from the word “ethos” which refers to the concepts of value. Moreover, it is involved in determining what is right and what is wrong in making decision.
Mayor Danny Toreja, on the other hand, reminded the participants-employees that the purpose of the seminar is to further enhance and improve everyone’s customer relations skills in dealing with public clients.
“Hindi po ibig sabihin na kaya natin ginagawa natin ito ay dahil may mali. Nandito po tayo para mas higit pa nating mapagbuti ang ating pagbibigay serbisyo sa mamamayan ng Ibaan”, he said.
