Based on the records of Ibaan Municipal Civil Registrar, as per registered in their office, there’s been a decrease on the number of children that were born in Ibaan from 2012 to 2014.
Classified as “live births”, between 2012 and 2013, a 31% decline was registered. The decrease was much smaller between 2013 and 2014 recorded at 10%. This is reflected on the numerical figures which were set at 683, 470, and 422 for the last three years.
According to MCR Officer Mr. Roderick Altamirano, the data are compiled based only on the number of child that were registered by their parents at their office. Understandably, registered live birth leads to applying for and release of Birth Certificate.
Mr. Altamirano also regrets that fact that there are still some parents who fail or refuse to register their child, the same with the application or request for a Birth Certificate.
“Birth Certificate nowadays is very essential and very important in different business and personal transactions. For example, they are needed in enrolling a child for elementary education, applying for a job local and abroad, applying for licenses and others. We are really encouraging our parents to apply for or get a birth certificate for their children.”, added Mr. Altamirano.
Meanwhile, from the total registered live births in the last three years, as per gender, there were more male babies born than female.
Adding up the number of live births, male babies slightly outnumbered female babies at 791 against the latter at 784. It was only in 2012 that female babies significantly eclipsed their male counterpart.
As Per Status
Despite the presence of circumstances when parents fail to file for the registration of their born babies, it’s still highly commendable that majority of the parents choose to register or apply/acquire birth certificate for their babies from the MCRO.
However, still based on the accomplishment report made by MCRO, one of the areas of concern is the number of babies that were considered “illegitimate”.
As per basic definition by the civil registrar, “illegitimate” are those babies who were born out of wed lock, or whose parents are not yet legally married.
From 2012 to 2014, the number of illegitimate babies were almost at par with the legitimate ones.
While there are various reasons for these numbers, Ibaan Municipal Civil Registrar remains true to their sworn duties and responsibilities and remains to be at service of everyone.
