In a meeting held at Sangguniang Bayan, Mayor Danny Toreja led a consultation session with different municipal hall department heads, February 24. The consultation focused on Malampaya – First Gas Power Corporation pipelines which they plan to install in certain areas in Ibaan. Dubbed as BATMAN 1 Project (Batangas – Manila), the pipeline will carry liquefied natural gas produced at Malampaya Gas Station in Tabangao, Batangas going to it’s Manila facilities. The project is also in coordination with PNOC Exploration Corporation, Shell Philippines Exploration and Chevron.
During the consultation, the department heads were asked to give their areas of concern in view of their own department’s area of responsibility. The discussion ranges from both of the pipelines’ negative and positive impact to the community of Ibaan -environment, healt, and economy.
As per Mayor Toreja’s point of view, he sees the project as a welcome development. Aside from the possible taxes that may be earned by the municipality, the pipelines’ presence could also be an attraction to investors whose business is in line with the use of natural gas. He also looks forward for the company to provide a separate pipeline dedicated for Ibaan with safety valve. This will give easier access to companies situated in Ibaan that may be in need of the natural gas.
The areas in which the pipelines are to be installed are yet to be determined.
Another set of consultation, together with representatives from concern companies, is scheduled.
