Along with the celebration of Ibaan patron saint’s feast day, Saint James The Greater, world’s renown 24-hour convenience store 7-11 opened its doors for business to Ibaenos, July 25.
For almost two months, the construction was fast tracked to have its opening during one of Ibaan’s most important events. Sitting beside FMC Bakery and Department Store in the middle of the town, 711 occupies offers the same products that can be seen in other branches.
Present during the opening was Ibaan Mayor Danny Toreja, Vice Mayor Sixto Yabyabin, some Sangguniang Bayan members and Barangay Chairmen. In his short speech, Mayor Toreja narrated some parts of the negotiations made between him and 711 franchise owner Mrs. Myra Pitogo.
“Noong una po lumapit sa atin si Madam para sa pagtatayo ng 711 dito sa Ibaan, isa sa mga naging sentro ng aming usapin ay kung saan manggagaling ang mga empleyado niya. Nasabi po niya na dalawa ang manggagaling sa Ibaan. Hindi po ako pumayag. Ang sabi ko po, hangga’t maaari, anim ang kunin dito sa Ibaan. At sa sumunod po naming pag-uusap, pumayag po sya na anim po ang kunin na empleyado dito sa Ibaan” (When we first talked about the establishment of 711 in Ibaan, we talked and focused more as to where her employees will come from. Madam said two of them will be hired from Ibaan. I did not agree with her. I told here that there should be at least six (6) employees should come from Ibaan. The next time we met, Madam agreed to hire six employees from Ibaan), he said.
The store employs eight (8) employees on a shifting basis.
Mayor Toreja added that, in the view of asking 711 to hire more from Ibaan, employees from Ibaan have the quality of a dedicated, loyal, effective and efficient employee. And that for every business to be established in Ibaan, he will always bargain for Ibaenos’ employment. He also assured the he himself will take responsibility for any erring employees from Ibaan.
Erstwhile, Mayor Toreja reiterated that Ibaan is in the crossroad of popular destinations like San Juan, Batangas City and Lipa City. People going to those places pass through Ibaan. Establishments like 711 can somehow make the travelers stop at Ibaan to buy. Thus, being an investment-friendly town, he expects more and other business entities to be established in Ibaan to take advantage of Ibaan’s location.
Lastly, he confirmed he is already into negotiation table with Philippines’ food giant Jollibee to have its branch erected in Ibaan.
On the other hand, Mrs. Pitogo expressed her firm belief on the business potentials that Ibaan offers. She thanked Ibaenos for welcoming and accepting 711. She also promised to provide the community with the best service that will satisfy everyone’s expectations.
